Alex Bunbury,

I disagree, we weren’t as powerful or as incisive against Burnley, we were far more tentative and didn’t have Masuaku bamboozling them down the left.

Is it just me or is Arnie more and more resembling Dean Ashton?

On his day Ashton was a powerhouse and a colossus, no defender could touch him. Both are, and were, big, powerful, fast and skilful.

Great result, although Southampton were unbelievably poor. Strange performance from them given the usual bounce a new manager brings.

I think Antonio going off actually helped us, I really like Edimilson but I wish he could actually cement himself an actual position.

Anyway, Arnie is an absolute hero this season, a much needed saviour after Payet. The bloke is ducking immense.

That was a huge result and will see us stay up. I still want that ginger fuck out at the end of the season though. He should be sending Hughes a good bottle of red tomorrow for sending out a side that had absolutely no ideas whatsoever.

They played like that in the first half against Burnley. The difference is they didn’t score.

If we had gone ahead against Burnley in the 1st half like we should of done with Lanzini in particular missing 2 good chances then we would of won that game.

That was the difference. We have to score the first goal.

Probably been said already, but Noble was superb today.

I'm not his biggest fan , but credit where credit is due!

So much for my 1-1..

Good result clearly. But where was this performance against Burnley, etc...?

Great atmosphere today. Yes Southampton were poor. Scoring early relieved the pressure. I have to say the LS wasn’t as bad I expected. Still it ain’t a football stadium for sure.

MOtM Arthur closely followed by Arnie and Rice.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - The Official Match Thread
Fantastic result & well deserved

Yes Southampton were poor & I don't believe they had a shot on target all afternoon. We could have had a penguin in goal & they wouldn't have scored

I made Masuaka MOtM, but there were several notable performances. Nobody was poor. We haven't dominated a game as we did in the 1st half as we did today, in absolutely years

If Cresswells effort had gone in rather than thumping the bar, it would have been goal of the season

We're not safe but we needed that result today. 3 goals, it could easily have been more, & a clean sheet. It's a good start to our recovery

Our fans were brilliant today getting behind the team right from the off & it made a massive difference

The unrest at the Burnley game was 100% necessary. If we do manage to stay up, the board at least now know what awaits them from the fans if they continue to take the piss

It looks like the warm weather training has helped

Tremendous result. The crowd and the players helped one another today and being 2-0 up after a quarter of the game [ should have been 3-0 ] settled everyone's nerves.

Joe Hart kept a clean sheet today but could not have done it without the help of a woeful Southampton side who went the entire game without a shot on target.

We are far from safe from relegation yet but this spirited performance gives us grounds for optimism.

Looking at the remaining fixtures only Palace have an “ easy “ run in . Beat Stoke and we’ll be ok .....
Maybe !

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - The Official Match Thread
We’re a more balanced and better side with Matsui playing.
Mario had his best game for us today, nice finish and nice cross for Arnie, had some nice touches throughout.
Rice played well as did Ogbanna.
Arnie deserved Man of the match.......

Broms down, Southampton have a tough run in, they look doomed. Huddersfield or Stoke to battle it out for the last place for relegation. Would like to see a Stoke go down, then go after Shaqiri.

As much as I despise the owners I was massively happy with the result. Thank fuck they pulled that out the bag as relegation would be a disaster for the club.

Good work Moyes.

I did not see that performance coming. Absolutely destroyed them and just walked in completely shitted, which my Mrs seems very pleased with.

I’m meant to be out later to watch the boxing. It blatantly ain’t gonna happen. IRONS!!!

I'm of a similar mind, Sir Alf - I've got absolutely no idea where they dug that performance from, but I'm glad they did so - can't even begin to imagine what another reversal would have thrown up.

I still suspect we're more reliant on games that don't involve us than we are games that do - any two of the teams between us & West Brom dropping more points than we do - but that's now 3 less points they have to drop.

Right where are they off to on their holidays this week

Sir Alfs, you must have cornered the market for humble pies and half empty glasses by now, could be an opportunity there somewhere.
